Art and Travel in Seattle
Makayla Dones is part of the ART for ALL community and recently traveled to Seattle. This blog post is all about her experience and in her words!
Seattle's vibrant art scene took me by surprise. Everywhere I turned, I saw art vendors, street art, or community art projects that decorated the city, giving it life and personality. I saw the iconic Space Needle, and the beautiful glasswork done by Chihuly, ventured to the shores of Bainbridge Island, ate at Pike's Place, and enjoyed the flourishing art culture that seems to be the heart of Seattle. This was initially just a work trip but I surprisingly found myself immersed in the Seattle culture!
I had a full day to travel around the city and NOT do any work. Woohoo! I went to the pride parade which led me to the space needle. After a long journey to the top, I could see the whole city. At first, I was feeling a little uneasy about stepping onto the glass that spins (luckily it was slow) but I made it!
The Chihuly meseum was my next stop and WOW! I think its time I take a glass blowing class after seeing Chihuly’s work. Every piece was breathtaking!
My last stop was Bainbridge Island. I took a short ferry ride there and captured a few great pictures of the city. After my trip, I was inspired by the postcards Margot made and decided to make one of my own using a Postcard art set from the Chihuly gift shop.
