Behind the Scenes

If you have ever painted walls in your house, you know that the actual painting time is small compared to deciding what color to use, purchasing supplies and preparing the walls. All the more for a large, collaboratively made mural with an accompanying exhibit! Countless meetings, spreadsheets, emails and phone call, many hours purchasing and distributing supplies, and then cleaning the containers of paint when they return. It goes on. Here are just a few of the people and tasks behind the painting of the mural!

Mike has spent untold hours drawing the many elements in the body of the mural.

Here is Margot cutting polytab. Everything gets painted on pieces of this thin cloth which must be carefully cut and primed.

Clare Hwang is one of many who primed what seems like miles of ploytab!

Bob Hartman has been another primer of polytab!

Melissa Tustin helped enlarge drawings onto the polytab.

Linda Carmel is charge of keeping the many supplies organized. Art is inherently chaotic, so this is a big deal!

Many, including Joanne Lemire, have filled, cleaned, and filled again containers of paint for the dozens of art makers painting in their studios.

And, like everything else in today’s world, a lot of work is done on computers. Thank you Brittany Norton for the fabulous spreadsheets that are keeping us organized and on track!

Communication/promotion is a major part of behind-the-scenes effort. Many thanks to CCHS art teacher Tracie Dunn and her students for making a sign for the unveiling that will go up on the wall this Thursday. Keep an eye out for it as you are walking the trail!
