Interested in making some self-affirming art? Join us for a Collage for Self- Acceptance/Compassion workshop. In this one evening class, you will create a personally meaningful collage that acknowledges your worth.
So often we view ourselves under a negative lens. Shifting our view from self-criticism to self-acceptance is an incremental process that takes repeated practice. Over time, repeating positive phrases has been shown to reshape how we think and feel about ourselves. The science behind it involves the billions of neurons in our brain. When we think, neurons send electrical impulses along paths in our brain. This makes the neurons more sensitive and strengthens their pathways. When we engage the creative part of our brain and physically make things, the changes to our thinking are more powerful. Add being in a supportive group of people with the same intentions and the results are further magnified. Plus, it is more fun to work together!
Therese Roeser will guide you through the process of making a collage. She holds a Masters in Social Work and has extensive experience in art making. She has led this workshop since 2020 for several groups from Student Health and Counseling Services at the University of Chicago to the Multiservice Eating Disorder Association in Newton, Massachusetts. All supplies are included.
